Narada case: CBI writes to Lok Sabha Speaker seeking permission for chargesheet against Trinamool leaders

The Central Bureau of Investigation has written to Lok Sabha Speaker yet again seeking permission for filing chargesheet against Trinamool Congress parliamentarians Saugata Roy, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Prasun Banerjee and West Bengal minister Subhendu Adhikary in connection with the Narada investigation.

The CBI had written to the Lok Sabha Speaker twice earlier – in April, August and in mid-October.

The Narada videos were recorded by Mathew Samuel, and in it several individuals – including Mukul Roy and Sovon Chatterjee who are now with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – and Trinamool Congress’ Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee, Sougata Roy, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Prasun Banerjee, IPS officer SMH Mirza and others, were seen purportedly discussing receiving cash from a journalist who posed as a person with business interests in Bengal. The videos were shown on Narada TV and have come to be known as the Narada scandal. These were shown on television in 2016, prior to the Assembly elections in Bengal.

SMH Mirza has been arrested by the CBI and several Trinamool Congress leaders have been called and their voice recorded.

Trinamool leaders including Sovon Chatterjee, Aparupa Podder, Subrata Mukherjee, Subhendu Adhikary, and Mukul Roy, who is now in BJP, have been interrogated by CBI.
