New charges added by Delhi Police against Alt News’s Mohammed Zubair
He was arrested on June 27 over a 2018 tweet.
The Delhi Police added fresh charges against Mohammed Zubair, the co-founder of fact-checking site Alt News. He was arrested on June 27 for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through one of his 2018 tweets. It was reported that the fresh charges of criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence were mentioned by the Delhi Police on producing Mohammed Zubair at the Patiala House court.
The Delhi Police told Patiala House court that Criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence charges were added to the FIR along with Section 35 of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act or the FCRA. They sought 14 days of judicial custody of Mohammed Zubair.
Meanwhile, Zubair’s lawyer moved bail application before the court. On being arrested, he was earlier sent to one-day police custody by the trial court on the same day, and later for four days of police custody.
