Rainfall is likely to continue over almost all of West Bengal through the weekend till Tuesday.
Rainfall may be accompanied by gusty winds blowing at 30-50 kilometres per hour (kmph) at places in north and south Bengal. The windspeed may even reach 60 kmph at places.
North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore and Jhargram are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday.
Other parts of south Bengal too may receive heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in the next 72 hours. There may be hailstorm in some places. South Bengal will receive heavier rainfall during the weekend than north Bengal.
Parts of Purulia, Birbhum and West Burdwan are likely to receive rainfall during the next two to three hours from 2 pm on Saturday, Alipore Metrological department said.
The temperature during these days will range between 21°C to 33°C. Wednesday onwards, the days will remain generally cloudy. Light rainfall may be there.
The rainfall is being caused by a cyclonic circulation over parts of Uttar Pradesh adjacent to Bihar. This is resulting in large inflow of moisture from Bay of Bengal causing the formation of thunderstorm clouds, officials said.
