Rajeev Kumar granted anticipatory bail by Calcutta High Court

Former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar was granted anticipatory bail by the Calcutta High Court today. The hearing concluded on Monday, but the verdict was held back and announced today.
The court granted bail to Kumar and said that there is no need for his custodial interrogation as the IPS officer has been assisting the investigation process from the beginning.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has been alleging that Kumar had appeared twice out of eight times that he was called for interrogation in connection with the Saradha chit fund investigation. The CBI authorities have also alleged that he hadn’t answered all the questions while in Shillong.
The court meanwhile also directed the CBI to issue a notice to Kumar 48 hours prior to asking him to appear for questioning.
The High Court hearing was carried out in a closed court room for four days. The hearing is said to have been video recorded.
