A political party paid supaari for killing me: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said that a political party had paid advance money to supaari killers to eliminate her. She said this during an interview to a Bengali television channel. She did not name the political party, though.

Banerjee said during the interview that the police had asked her to shift to another house, adding that there had been attempts on her life before but she was not afraid to die.

The chief minister lives on Harish Chatterjee Street in Kolkata’s Hazra area. The security of the house has been a major concern to the police for many years, especially because it is located adjoining a thoroughfare. In recent times, security arrangements have been beefed up around the house and in adjoining roads. However, with Banerjee’s comments on Friday, it seems that the cause of concern still remains.
