There will be rain on all days of Durga Puja, the Alipore weather office has said. Rains will start from Shashthi and will grow heavier during the last two days of Durga Puja, officials said. However, days will remain sunny till Panchami.
The weather office said that the first three days of puja will be marked by sporadic rainfall. It may not rain heavily throughout the day on Navami and Dashami. Instead, there will be brief spells of thunderstorms which may continue for 60-90 minutes at a stretch, officials have said.
Director of the weather office, G K Das said that due to heavy rainfall in the past few days, the air is already laden with moisture. The temperature is also on a steady rise due to sunny weather following the rains. Such a condition may give rise to a high pressure zone over Bay of Bengal, which will cause heavy moisture incursion into the landmass, leading to thunderstorm clouds.
A low pressure trough is also predicted to form this Thursday, that will stretch from north Bengal to Odisha through south Bengal. This may further aid the high pressure zone over Bay of Bengal leading to cloud formation.
The only ray of hope for pandal hoppers in such a situation seems to be that the rains will mostly occur during the daytime, the director said. This is because such rains are brought about by cloud formation resulting from the heating of landmass.
