Shiv Sena seeks disqualification of rebel MLAs
Rebel MLAs led by Eknath Shinde may move EC seeking symbol and stake claim for the party.
The Shiv Sena has sought the disqualification of the MLAs as a move to fight the rebellion by Eknath Shinde that has the support of 50 MLAs, including 40 from the Shiv Sena itself. Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is reported to have said that the rebels were trying to break the party and overthrow the government.
Eknath Shinde meanwhile – stationed in Guwahati – has been claiming that he has support of over 50 MLAs, of whom 40 are from the Shiv Sena itself. The rebel MLAs are preparing to move Supreme Court once notices are issued to them.
Shinde may also move the Election Commission to stake claim for the party and the symbol. Already, 37 MLAs wrote to Governor and the Deputy Speaker naming Eknath Shinde as the legislature party leader after Uddhav Thackeray filed disqualification applications for 12 rebels with the Deputy Speaker. Shinde wants the Shiv Sena to break the alliance with the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party saying the Shiv Sena has been suffering for the alliance in its two-and-a-half years’ rule in Maharashtra.
