The Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana will be held on October 21. The results will be out on October 24. Chief election commissioner, Sunil Arora, today made the announcement at a press conference in New Delhi.
Campaigns for the upcoming state elections are already on in full swing in both the states. Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis had arranged a huge roadshow last month to reach out to the voters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed the people at the end of the roadshow. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and ally Shiv Sena had some differences on seat sharing, and according to some reports, they are on their way to resolving the differences almost entirely.
Conditions are however not so favourable for the Congress in the state. A large number of Congress leaders have joined BJP or the Sena. BJP had won 122 out of 288 seats in the last election.
In Haryana, BJP came to the power for the first time after ousting the Congress government which had been ruling the state for two straight terms.
