Top Maoist leader Prashant Bose alias Kishan Da, who was carrying a reward of ₹1 crore on his head, has been arrested, Jharkhand police said on Friday. His wife, Sheela Marandi – also a senior Maoist leader – was arrested along with him.
They have been taken to Ranchi for interrogation, according to police.
Kishan Da is wanted in several cases. He is said to be among the top leaders of the Maoists, and was head of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) before it merged with the CPI-ML (People’s War) to form the CPI (Maoist) in 2004. He was heading the eastern regional bureau of the outfit and was in charge of its activities in states like Jharkhand, Bengal, Bihar and Odisha. Marandi has been one of the top-most women leaders in the CPI (Maoist) for years.
Bose hails from West Bengal. He is believed to have been operating from the Saranda forests.
