VHP stalls Ram temple campaign before Lok Sabha polls

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has decided to put on hold its campaign for the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya.

Stating that they would no longer push for an ordinance for the temple construction till the end of the Lok Sabha elections in May 2019, VHP joint secretary Surendra Jain said that the decision had been taken by “seers” to ensure that people do not view VHP as supporting any one ‘particular party’ ahead of the polls.

As a result, the VHP will not be holding “any protest” for the “next four months” said the general secretary. He however added that they would resume its campaign for temple construction immediately after the polls and would urge the government to bring forward an ordinance towards that end.

This announcement comes after seven days of the government filing a petition asking the Supreme Court to hand over the undisputed land near the disputed site to the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas or the trust overlooking the Ram temple plan.
