Pandal hopping in buses: special transport services during Durga Puja

The West Bengal government’s transport department has lined up special bus services and prepared packages for some notable Durga Pujas in state.

One such initiative has already been in place since last year which includes tours of some famous traditional household pujas of Kolkata, Durga Puja in the villages, heritage tram tour, waterway tour of the pujas, Jayrambati-Kamarpukur visit, traditional household or barowari puja tour and watching immersion from vessels.

From this year, tours of traditional household pujas and other notable sites in Hooghly, showcasing the immersion ceremony from Ichhamati river in Taki, Damodar river in Durgapur and Ganga in Kalna, tour of pujas in Salt Lake and Newtown have been added to the itinerary. Both air-conditioned and non-AC buses are available depending on the nature, fare and place of tours.

Also, people from villages and cities can buy a single-day ticket for travelling in state transport all day. All of these are the initiatives of West Bengal State Transport Corporation. Tickets are available from the WBSTC’s online portal, various depots, terminals and smart card booking counters.

The North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) authorities meanwhile said that the number of buses to tourist spots like Darjeeling, Dooars, Sikkim and Bhutan are being increased. Buses are being increased in Kolkata also for the puja days. About 1,600 buses will run day and night across the city during these days. Vessels along riverways will also be increased. The said increase in the number of buses will take place form Mahalaya itself, state transport minister Suvendu Adhikari said.
