Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has said that whoever comes in the way of “efforts of public welfare by an ascetic” will be “punished”. He said that it was not possible for those “who have inherited politics” and practice a politics of appeasement understand the meaning of public welfare. Adityanath took to Twitter to say this.
His tweet comes after Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday attacked him on the recent remark in which Adityanath said that “revenge” would be taken against those involved in the vandalisation of public property in UP during the ongoing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had said that Adityanath who had donned the saffron attire did not uphold the values that the saffron colour is associated with. She said, “The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh has worn the attire of a yogi. This saffron doesn’t belong to you. This saffron is a symbol of the religious and the spiritual tradition of India. It is a symbol of Hinduism. Try to follow the teachings of the Hinduism where there is no place for anger, violence, and revenge.”
She also said that “This is the first time in the history of this country that a chief minister has said something like this. There is no place for violence, revenge or anger in this country’s soul.”
