Durga Puja: Special food and new clothes in West Bengal’s government-run mental hospitals

The West Bengal government’s health department has allotted special funds for food and new clothes for the inmates of state-run mental hospitals, on the occasion of Durga Puja.

There will be special menu and new clothes for those undergoing treatment in the hospitals. The money has been allotted for 1,772 inmates of five mental hospitals – Calcutta Pavlov Hospital, Lumbini Park Mental Hospital, Berhampore Mental Hospital, Institute of Mental Care in Purulia and Institute of Psychiatry of the SSKM Hospital.

Of the total Rs 15.5 lakh sanctioned for the purpose, Rs 13.2 lakh will be for new clothes and the remaning Rs 2.48 lakh will be spent on the special Durga Puja menu for all the Puja days.

This system has been in place for the past few years. It aims at providing those undergoing treatment in these hospitals to have some fun, wear new clothes and enjoy good food during the few days of Durga Puja. They are also taken for pandal hopping in buses to a few pujas in Kolkata.
