18 dead, 5 injured in Nadia road accident as matador collides with truck
Those in the matador were heading towards a crematorium.
Eighteen people died and five others were injured in a road accident in West Bengal’s Nadia district on Saturday night.
The accident took place when 35-40 people heading towards Nabadwip crematorium in a matador carrying a dead body from Bagda of North 24 Parganas collided with a truck. The truck was apparently parked on the roadside in Phulbari under Hanskhali police station area. The truck was loaded with stone chips. The injured were taken to Shantinagar district hospital, where 18 persons were declared dead. Five others — all of them critically injured — are undergoing treatment.
According to police, thick fog had reduced visibility and the high speed of the vehicle had led to the accident and the large number of deaths.
