Difficult days are ahead for the daily commuters of Sealdah mainline as over 300 trains have been cancelled for the next eight days due to work on automatic signalling system between Icchapur and Naihati. The work will continue from February 9 to 16. Service will remain suspended from 12 pm Sunday to 10 am next Sunday, the authorities said.
The railway authorities have published a list of the Up and Down trains that will be cancelled. These include 12 Krishnanagar local trains, 24 local trains to and from Ranaghat, 76 Kalyani Simanta local trains, 164 trains between Naihati and Sealdah and 12 Naihati-Ranaghat local trains.
Some Up and Down long-distance trains will also be rerouted from Dum Dum junction via Dankuni. These are: Kolkata-Sitamarhi Express, Seladah-Ballia Express, Kolkata-Patna Express, Gour Express, Gangasagar Exress and Kolkata-Jasidih Passenger train.
The announcements have been already made in all the stations under Sealdah division to keep the commuters alert about the changes so that they can arrange for alternative routes.
