This is the second time such arrests have taken place.
Six persons, including a police home guard were arrested in West Bengal’s Jhargram district for posing as Maoists and extorting money from people.
A pistol and Rs 35,000 in cash were found on them. According to police, they were writing posters and pasting them to create an atmosphere of fear and extorting people.
For the past few months, there have been several incidents of finding Maoist posters in the area leading to fear among people. During a recent visit to the area by chief minister Mamata Banerjee, officials said that there was no information on Maoists entering into the area from neighbouring states or becoming active. She asked the officers to probe as to where the posters were coming from. This is the second incident of arrest of those who were posing as Maoists for extorting money.
