753 companies of Central force for final phase Bengal election, 6 police observers for Birbhum district
Phase 8 is scheduled on April 29.
The Election Commission of India has decided to deploy 753 companies of Central paramilitary force for the eighth and final phase of election in West Bengal on April 29. Polls are scheduled in 35 seats in this phase. It will be held in parts of Malda, Kolkata North, Murshidabad and in Birbhum.
The polling booths will be manned by 641 companies and the remaining personnel will be on reserve. For this phase, in Birbhum district alone, the EC has deployed six police observers. These observers will keep an eye on the “sensitive” booths of Birbhum district.
For Birbhum district, 224, for Kolkata North 95, for Malda 110 and for Murshidabad 212 companies for Central paramilitary forces have been deployed. There are 11,860 booths in these districts where polling will be held.
Altogether 1,071 companies of Central forces were brought to West Bengal for the eight-phase Assembly elections that started on March 27 and will conclude on April 29. Results will be out on May 2. With 753 companies to be used for the final phase and during counting, the remaining 318 companies have been released from duty in Bengal.
