Rifle of RPF constable goes off accidentally, passengers – a woman and her child – injured in Kolkata’s Dum Dum Metro station

A rifle of a Railway Protection Force constable went off accidentally at Dum Dum Metro station in Kolkata on Friday afternoon injuring two passengers waiting to catch a train – a woman and her child.

The incident took place at around 2 pm, as an RPF constable’s rifle accidentally dropped on the ground. The impact of the fall unlocked the safety latch and lead to firing. The woman and her nine-year old child were waiting at Dum Dum Metro station for a train and the constable was close by. While details are still not available, apparently, a bullet hit the wall, flung off and got directed towards them. They were taken to the nearby RG Kar Hospital.

The police are investigating how it took place. CCTV footage from the station has been obtained.
