The Bengal Story Bureau: Eastern Railway has announced the operation of seven special local trains in the Howrah division to manage the heavy rush of passengers expected for the Paschimbanga Diwas celebrations. The special EMU local trains will run on June 20, 2026, across the busy Howrah, Sheoraphuli, Tarakeswar, and Goghat sections, ensuring smoother transit for thousands of daily commuters and visitors.
The decision from the railway administration comes amid growing demands for increased train frequencies on the branch lines. According to senior railway officials, the special services have been designed to clear additional footfall around the major religious and cultural hubs of Hooghly and neighboring districts during the state event.
Detailed Timetable and Special Routes Released
The Howrah railway division confirmed that these seven special trains will stop at all intermediate stations along their respective routes. The detailed operational schedule for the special local trains running on Saturday has been officially structured as follows:

Relief for Commuters on Overcrowded Branch Lines
Daily commuters on the Howrah-Tarakeswar-Goghat section have frequently raised concerns regarding severe overcrowding during weekends and public holidays. Passengers often have to travel on footboards due to a lack of adequate services relative to the swelling population of suburban travelers.
By deploying seven additional suburban trains, Eastern Railway expects to distribute the high traffic volume efficiently, reducing the passenger load on regularly scheduled local services. Station masters along the route have been instructed to ensure timely announcements and proper platform management for these incoming special rakes.
What happens next
The seven special trains will remain operational throughout June 20, 2026, to accommodate both morning and afternoon passenger flows. Security personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) will be deployed in higher numbers at sensitive junction points, including Howrah, Sheoraphuli, and Tarakeswar, to manage the crowds and maintain safety.
