Election Commission full bench to be in Kolkata today to prepare for Assembly election
Law and order, electoral rolls among issues to be discussed.
The full bench of the Election Commission of India (ECI) will be in Kolkata on Wednesday to oversee the preparations for the coming Assembly elections in the state. The full bench will also look at the law and order situation and is thus expected to meet senior police officers.
Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and Commissioners Rajiv Kumar and Sushil Chandra will be in Kolkata on Wednesday after their meetings in Assam.
On Thursday, they will meet representatives of political parties. They are also likely to meet senior administrative officials and police officers. While law and order is an issue to be discussed, there is also the overall poll preparedness that the full bench will look at. This includes preparations and revision of electoral rolls, officials who need to be transferred (if they have served in a position for three years or more), complaints from political parties and so on.
Recently, deputy election commissioner in charge of West Bengal, Sudeep Jain, was in Kolkata and had met senior officials.
