Suvendu Adhikari faces protests by local women in Nandigram
BJP alleged that the protest was organised by Trinamool Congress.
Suvendu Adhikari, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from East Midnapore’s Nandigram who is fighting the Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee faced protests by led by local women, who stood blocking his convoy with brooms and shoes. Some local men stood shouting slogans from behind. The incident took place at Bheturia village of Block No. 2 in Nandigram on Wednesday.
The BJP candidate was returning after meeting one of the party leaders at his home. While the women protested in front of the BJP leader’s convoy, the men in the village also shouted slogans against Suvendu Adhikari from a distance. Cops had to intervene after the situation turned worse.
BJP leaders blamed the Trinamool Congress for organising this protest and creating an embarrassing situation from Adhikari, who has been pitching himself as a “local person” or “bhumiputra”. They said that earlier it was the Left, which tried to stop Suvendu, now it is the Trinamool Congress. But no one can stop him, they claimed.
