The Bengal Story Bureau: Actor Sonu Mmishra has claimed that he walked out of the controversial film Kala Hiran after discovering a contract clause requiring him to speak publicly against Bollywood star Salman Khan. The actor, who recently shared the screen with Khan in the action thriller Sikandar, stated that he abandoned the project two days into the shoot as the demand violated his professional ethics.

Kala Hiran is reportedly based on the 1998 blackbuck poaching case involving the Bollywood superstar. The film has faced mounting scrutiny after multiple actors distanced themselves from the project.

The Controversial Contract Clause

Mmishra told a YouTube entertainment channel that he initially accepted the lead role because he saw it as an opportunity to portray a character based on the superstar. However, he requested the formal contract and script after completing two days of filming.

“After a lot of delay, they showed me the contract, which stated that I had to talk against Salman to the media as well,” the actor said. He added that as the narrative took shape on set, he realised the film intended to portray Khan in a negative light.

He clarified that his decision to exit the project was driven solely by his ethical principles, dismissing suggestions that he acted out of fear of the Bollywood star or his influence in the industry.

Publicity Stunts and Legal Notices

The actor also criticised the film’s producer, Amit Jani, for publicly tearing up a legal notice sent by Khan’s legal team. Mmishra alleged that the act was merely a publicity stunt designed to create hype around the film. He noted that the legal notice had originally been issued in April but was only made a public spectacle in June to generate controversy.

Kala Hiran, directed by Bharat S Shrinate, has faced backlash from its own cast members in recent weeks. Earlier this month, veteran actor Govind Namdev publicly distanced himself from the project. Namdev claimed the filmmakers had misled him about the plot and kept him in the dark regarding the negative portrayal of the lead character.
