A cyclonic circulation– formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood in Bihar and Jharkhand– triggered sporadic rainfall in Kolkata and surrounding districts since Saturday morning.
The rainfall brought down the humidity significantly, bringing respite from a prolonged period of heat and humidity that preceded it. The regional meteorological department, Alipore said that this is not a monsoon rain and that it will only continue for today.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the condition for further advancement of south-western monsoon has become favourable, but the city has to wait for another 48 hours for it.
