COVID-19: India reports 1.27 lakh new cases, 16% lower than yesterday

The death toll rose by 2,795.

India reported 1,27,510 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours on Tuesday. Its total count of cases since the outbreak of the pandemic last year rose to 2,81,75,044. The death toll rose by 2,795 to 3,31,895.

Yesterday, the country reported the lowest daily rise in COVID-19 cases in 50 days with 1.52 lakh fresh infections. There have been 3.29 lakh deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Earlier this month, the country’s daily Coronavirus cases had hit a global record with 4.14 lakh infections per day. The healthcare system was nearly crippled with reported shortage of beds and medical supplies, including oxygen. However, following lockdown measures in various states – particularly the areas affected more – increasing vaccination, more medical oxygen supply and medicines, there is a drop in cases over the past couple of weeks.

India has so far administered 21 crore doses, and another 12 crore doses will be available in June, the government said.
