Two new isolation centres for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) are coming up at Kolkata’s Rajarhat on an emergency basis, said West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday. The isolation centres will accommodate 800 patients altogether, she said.
The state government has decided to quarantine those above 60 years arriving at Kolkata’s NSC Bose Airport from COVID-19 affected countries. The individuals will be quarantined at a state-run hospital of Barasat for 14 days. The Barasat facility has 50 beds in its isolation ward currently. An isolation ward has also been set up at Falakata Superspeciality Hospital of Alipurduar. Passengers arriving at Bagdogra airport from affected countries will be quarantined there.
All buses to and from Bangladesh have been suspended till April 15. Similarly, only four check-posts across India-Nepal border will remain operational while the border with Bhutan has been sealed.
The state government on Friday postponed all sporting events till March 31. A meeting will be held on March 30 to take stock of the prevailing situation and further decisions in the matter will be notified then.
Speaker of the state Assembly on Friday asked the MLAs to not carry more than one assistant into the house to reduce crowding as far as possible.
