Dilip Ghosh “warned” by BJP headquarters for “embarrassing” the leadership

Asked to be discreet while making comments in future.

Dilip Ghosh, former Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief, was warned by the party’s headquarters in Delhi, saying that he had “caused embarrassment” to the central leadership by his comments. A letter sent to Ghosh yesterday – which was signed by the BJP headquarters in charge Arun Singh – the party told him that he had been told to be careful about making controversial statements in the past as well “in the fond hope that you will take note”.

Ghosh, who is a national vice president of the party, had publicly criticised Sukanta Majumdar, the party’s current Bengal chief, in April this year. “Sukanta Majumdar is less experienced. The party has been fighting for long and there are experienced senior leaders… They should be used to fight in the state,” Dilip Ghosh was quoted saying to journalists.

The letter from the party headquarters mentions that “In [a] recent interview, your comments in the electronic media and perhaps on other forums have been openly critical of senior state functionaries. Such comments will only hurt and harm the party and negate your own hard work in the past.”

The letter further states that while his “commitment to the party has been absolute, there have been some avoidable instances when some of your statements or outbursts have anguished the state party leaders and have also caused embarrassment to the central leadership.” It said that the national leadership is “deeply concerned” about such statements. It states that the instruction comes from the national party president JP Nadda that Ghosh would understand the sensitivity of the situation and remain “discreet in your dealings with the… media or any public fora”.
