The Bengal Story Bureau: Actor Shreyas Talpade has revealed that a single letter from Shah Rukh Khan and director Farah Khan helped him secure a bank loan for his first apartment in Mumbai after the bank initially rejected his application. The incident took place during the production of the 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om.
Speaking on Farah Khan’s YouTube channel, the 50-year-old actor recalled his early struggles in the Hindi film industry. Despite finding a house he liked in Mumbai, the bank denied his loan because he did not meet the financial eligibility criteria at the time.
The Letter That Changed Everything
Talpade explained that a female bank officer reviewing his rejected application asked him about his current projects. When he mentioned he was working on Om Shanti Om alongside Shah Rukh Khan and directed by Farah Khan, the officer offered a solution. She asked if the production team could provide an official letter of association.

The actor immediately contacted Farah Khan. The director acted swiftly, and within two days, Talpade received an official letter from Shah Rukh Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment. That single document proved his credibility to the bank, and officials approved his home loan almost instantly.
Farah Khan’s Candid Reaction
Listening to the story on her chat show, Farah Khan responded with her signature humour. She joked that she was glad the letter worked, acknowledging that the production had paid Talpade a very modest fee for his role in the film. The lighthearted comment highlighted the financial reality for supporting actors early in their careers.
Talpade recently appeared in the multi-starrer Welcome to the Jungle, which featured Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Disha Patani. He will next feature in projects like The India Story, The Game of Girgit and the highly anticipated comedy Golmaal 5.
