An IT professional from New Town – adjoining Kolkata – was arrested by Bidhannagar Police on Saturday for posing as Enforcement Directorate special director. Apparently, he pretended to be the ED officer in order to blackmail people through emails.
The suspect, Anantha Sundar Rajan, lent Rs 11 lakh to a friend who failed to pay him back. Rajan had purchased a domain in the ED’s name and floated a fake website. He had even created email id and emailed the bank asking for the bank details to get to know his financial condition.
He has apparently also sent emails to not only his friend but to multiple persons.
