Four new ministers in Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet today

Four new Trinamool Congress lawmakers – Sujit Basu, Tapas Roy, Nirmal Maji and Ratna Kar Ghosh – took oath as ministers in the Mamata Banerjee cabinet on Thursday.

The number of ministers had gone down to 40 due to the resignation of four ministers – including former Mayor and minister Sovon Chatterjee. The 44-member cabinet was thus short by four ministers. And Thursday’s addition was primarily to fill this gap.

However, a major reshuffling is also being worked out by Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. Some ministers may be given bigger responsibilities in the coming days, while some others may have to give up the responsibility of a department or two, sources said.
