Increased safety measures for West Bengal’s Ayodhya Hills tourists

With two tourists trapped by flash floods in West Bengal’s Ayodhya Hills last week, the district administration has decided to increase safety measures for this very popular tourist destination of Purulia district.

The Ayodhya Hills is especially popular as a winter tourist spot – where people from all over the state travel for day trips or spend weekends or a few days during winter vacations. Once nearly out of bounds due to the Maoist activities, Ayodhya has become a popular destination for visitors all over again.

Officials of the district administration held a meeting on Friday at Bagmundi guest house of Purulia along with local panchayat and block officials to chalk out the plans to increase safety measures.

Additional Superintendent of Police Dhritiman Sarkar said that certain “limited access areas” and certain “no access zones” will be marked. Several notice boards and signage will be placed at various points to make tourists aware of the dangers. Some civic volunteers will be deployed round the clock at the upper and lower dams region.

Sarkar said that officers from various departments will visit the popular tourist spots of Ayodhya Hills region as well, to find out the requirements of specific areas.
