Mamata Banerjee to organise protests meets against Central PSU privatisation, Delhi-Mumbai-Chennai and Kolkata on agenda
West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday announced that she will take to the streets to protest privatisation of Central government organisations. The protest meets and marches have been planned nationally – and thus, apart from Kolkata, there are metros such as Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai that are also on her protest agenda venues.
After Durga Puja, Banerjee said that the Trinamool Congress will take out a protest rally from Sealdah on October 18 and go up to Fairlie Place. Banerjee will be herself present at the rally. There are protest meets lined up ourside the Cossipore Gun and Shell Factory on September 26 and outside Coal India office on September 27.
There will be a 48-hour dharna in New Delhi from her party. The same issue will be taken up in Chennai and Mumbai, she said, where offices of the Central government organisations are located. Banerjee said that the Centre is on its way to privatising major sectors and organisations such as telecommunications, banking, defence, Air India, Life Insurance Corporation, BSNL and so on. Not only did she call the Central government employees, she promised to be with the employees of these organisations in their protests.
