Three dead, several injured in Amritsar terror attack

Three persons were killed and several injured in a terror attack in Rajasansi village of Amritsar on Sunday, in the city’s outskirts. It is less than 10 km from the Amritsar airport. It was said to be a grenade attack.

Punjab Police DGP Suresh Arora said that it appeared to be a “terrorist act”.

According to reports, some men came in bikes, faces covered in masks and hurled a grenade at a building where people had gathered for a religious ceremony. The building was identified as Nirankari Bhawan. People gather at the place for prayers every Sunday. Apparently, the men on bikes had threatened the people with guns before the attack.

This comes under the backdrop of an alert that a terror group – reportedly the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) – was en route to Delhi and was already in the area. Therefore, there is a strong possibility that it was an attack by a terrorist group, as police look into all possible angles and are investigating the matter.

Nearly 15 people were injured in the attack and they were taken to hospital for treatment.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh condemned the incident and said strong action will be taken.
