The Alipore weather office has predicted heavy rainfall across the state till Monday. This includes Kolkata and several other districts like Murshidabad and Birbhum in south Bengal. Similar conditions will prevail in some other districts in the western part of the state, it was said. This means the last weekend before Durga Puja, which involves maximum shopping, will be hugely affected both from the customers and traders’ point of view.
It has been predicted that the amount of rainfall will increase from Sunday in the districts of Nadia, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas and in other districts bordering Bangladesh.
Heavy rainfall has been predicted for the districts of north Bengal too. Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri are expected to receive heavy rains in the next 48 hours. The monsoon wind has been reported to be active in south Bengal right now. A low pressure trough is also expected to form in the northwest part of Bay of Bengal.
Officials from the weather office at Alipore have said that the days will remain cloudy before the pujas. Light to medium rainfall is predicted in Kolkata and the suburbs. There was no information on whether the puja days will remain clear and devoid of rain.
