The West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly trying to arrange a house for Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Kolkata as his visits are likely to be more frequent in the coming days.
After his rally in Kolkata on Sunday, Shah is learnt to have told state BJP leaders at a meeting that he would visit the state at least once every month from April to October. Also, after Durga Puja this year, he is likely to spend a week in Kolkata every month to give a major push to the BJP’s campaign before the 2021 Assembly elections in the state.
BJP national president JP Nadda will also assist Shah similarly in the campaigns by staying in the city for longer periods of time.
The BJP leaders are hopeful that the visits of the national leaders will boost their campaigns in the coming days as state-level leaders who can win them votes on their own merit alone are few and far between. The BJP leaders are themselves keen that Shah and Nadda will stay for longer in Bengal in the coming days, and as such, they want their stay in the city to be comfortable. This is the reason the state BJP leaders are going out of their way to make such arrangements, a senior leader indicated.
Shah has asked state BJP leaders to focus on grassroots level issues for the municipal polls and to focus on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) for the Assembly polls as the party feels that a large number of Hindu refugees in the state are likely to sympathise and understand the issue. Shah has also reportedly asked the Bengal leaders to campaign on the “misuse” of Central funds by Trinamool leaders.
