The accused nursing students who had been arrested for their alleged involvement in the killing of 15 puppies in the Nil Ratan Sarkar (NRS) hospital of Kolkata resumed classes from Monday.
This has led to fresh protests as the hospital authorities had declared earlier that the accused duo Moutusi Mondal and Soma Burman would be barred from setting foot in NRS till the completion of the ongoing probe against them.
It is reported that upon being contacted for an update, the NRS Deputy Superintendent Dwaipayan Biswas stated that a ‘response from Swasthya Bhawan’ was ‘still pending’.
According to sources, the accused returned to campus and rejoined classes as the West Bengal Nursing Council (WBNC) did not oppose the move. Many other nursing students as well as members of a nursing association have also demanded that the two be allowed to resume classes.
Alongside, they have urged the authorities to take up the case of sterilisation of the stray dogs on campus. Some students have also boycotted classes to protest against the treatment being doled out to Soma Burman and Moutusi Mondal. While the law must follow its course, no one has the right to disallow them from attending classes, pointed out a protesting student.
