Bengali actor and former Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal passed away in Mumbai on Tuesday morning. He suffered a cardiac arrest. He was 61.
He is survived by wife Nandini and daughter Sohini. Pal had been suffering from various ailments for the past two years. He was in Mumbai to visit his daughter. He complained of chest pain at the Mumbai airport — as he was returning to Kolkata — and was rushed to a hospital where he passed away early on Tuesday.
Born on September 29, 1958, Tapas Pal debuted in the Bengali film Dadar Kirti in 1980, which was a superhit film that made him a household name. His other films include Saheb, Bhalobasha Bhalobasha, Anurager Chhnowa, Gurudakshina among others.
He has been an MP for two terms from Krishnagar and an MLA from Alipore representing Trinamool Congress. Pal was arrested in 2016 by the Central Bureau of Investigation for his alleged involvement in the Rose Valley scam. He was granted bail after 13 months. He stayed away from films and politics due to this as because of his various ailments.
