“Attractive place to work?” Shashi Tharoor tweets picture with women MPs, later issues apology
The tweet was criticised for being "insensitive".
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday posted on his Twitter account a picture with six women Members of Parliament and wrote: “Who says the Lok Sabha isn’t an attractive place to work? With six of my fellow MPs this morning”.
In the picture were Trinamool Congress MPs Nusrat Jahan and Mimi Chakraborty, NCP’s Supriya Sule and Congress MPs Preneet Kaur and Jothimani, and DMK’s Tamizhachi Thangapandia. Preneet Kaur is Amarinder Singh’s wife.
Many responded negatively to the tweet, leading to Tharoor tweeting an apology. “The whole selfie thing was done (at the women MPs’ initiative) in great good humour & it was they who asked me to tweet it in the same spirit. I am sorry some people are offended but i was happy to be roped in to this show of workplace camaraderie. That’s all this is,” Tharoor later clarified in another post.
His tweet with the picture of women MPs was criticised for being insensitive, and for “reducing elected political leaders to their looks”. Some also said it was objectification.
