The Election Commission on Friday said that the bypoll for the Rajya Sabha seat in West Bengal vacated by Dinesh Trivedi will take place on August 9.
Two Rajya Sabha seats fell vacant in Bengal after Dinesh Trivedi and Manas Bhuniya resigned as members of the Upper House of the Parliament in February this year. While Trivedi switched from Trinamool Congress to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bhuniya became an MLA in the state’s Assembly election.
