A Trinamool Congress delegation will visit Lucknow on Sunday, following widespread clashes over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) across the state that led to nine deaths on Friday. Two more persons were killed in earlier clashes taking the death toll to 11 in Uttar Pradesh.
A four-member delegation will visit the grieving families of those who were killed in police firing in Lucknow, a press release of the Trinamool Congress said.
The state director general of police, OP Singh has however, denied that the protestors were killed in police firing. Not a single bullet was fired by the police, he claimed. Over 50 police personnel were injured in the clashes, according to police.
The Trinamool Congress delegation will be led by Dinesh Trivedi, and the others are MPs Pratima Mondal, Md Nadimul Haque and Abir Biswas. The team will reach Lucknow on Sunday. “Our delegation is going to Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow on humanitarian mission to be with the grieving families of those killed and also meet those injured in the incidents”.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has already appealed to the Centre several times to withdraw the National Register for Citizens and the CAA.
