Bengal government to skip NPR meeting in Delhi on Friday

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced that her government will not send any representative to Delhi on Friday where the Centre has called a meeting on the National Population Register. This is a preparatory meeting on the NPR.

“We will not send any representative,” Banerjee announced on Wednesday at Kolkata’s Rani Rashmoni Avenue, where her party, Trinamool Congress’ students’ wing is organising an agitation programme against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The Centre has asked all states to participate in a preparatory meeting for “Census 2021/Updation of NPR, 2020” . Officers from all states have been called to the meeting where details of executing the work will be explained as well as the steps ahead.

While Bengal government will participate in the session on Census, the session on NPR won’t be attended by officials from the state.
