Bengal govt to launch mobile application for dengue by March

The West Bengal government will launch a mobile based application for controlling dengue. The application can run on all major operating systems like android, i-phone, windows and others. It will be launched by March, officials said.
Through the application, people will be able to upload photos of unclean areas which are breeding grounds for spreading diseases like dengue.
In most cases, unclean neighbourhoods lead to the spread of dengue in Kolkata and other places within the state, thus bringing the local civic bodies under fire. From now on, the authorities of the local civic bodies can thus be alerted by the state authorities if such a negligence is observed on their part.
Officials feel that such a step will help them check dengue to a large extent if the accumulation of dirt in localities or in the water bodies is reported at an early stage.
However, the most distinguishing feature of this application is that people will be able to seek advice and the necessary steps to be taken if they fall ill. If people report illness through the application, executives from the state’s specialised call centre will call them up and instruct on what to do after gathering the required details.
Citizens will also be able to report irregularities in daily sanitation activities by the civic bodies or if the health workers are not visiting their respective areas regularly. People can also inform the authorities about the number of people that have fallen ill in a locality through this application. It will also ask for suggestions from people to prevent the spread of dengue in their locality.
The application will contain information about the nearest government and private hospitals where dengue is treated and other dos and don’ts.
