Bengal Police says all angles being probed in killing of BJP leader who was accused in murder cases; CID takes over probe
The West Bengal Police on Monday took to Twitter to ask people to not “jump to conclusions” on social media about the murder of BJP leader Manish Shukla. He was killed by armed miscreants in Barrackpore’s Titagarh area on Sunday evening. The police said that “all possible reasons” for the murder are being looked into, including “personal enmity” as “the victim was accused in some cases of murder and attempt to murder”.
From its official Twitter handle, the state police wrote: “A person was shot dead last evening in Titagarh area of Barrackpore. Police is investigating the crime and looking into all possible reasons including personal enmity because the victim was accused in some cases of murder and attempt of murder. Please do not jump on conclusion without proper investigation. Irresponsible comments on social media tantamount to interference in the investigation. Please refrain from this.”
Meanwhile, the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took over the probe charge from the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate, under whose jurisdiction the murder took place. BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya has demanded a CBI probe. Shukla, said to be close to BJP MP Arjun Singh, was with the Trinamool Congress. He had earlier been close to CPIM leader Tarit Topdar when the Left Front government was in power.
