Bengal schools reopen for classes 9 to 12; hybrid option for children too

Schools in Bengal reopened for classes 9 to 12 across the state after a gap of 11 months due to COVID-19.
The decision to reopen schools was taken by the state government keeping under consideration the upcoming Board exams. However, some private school authorities are also planning hybrid options for students at home.
Although the students were excited to return to school, not all parents seemed confident about sending the children out of the safety of their homes. The school authorities have however assured of the full safety for the students. “We have done everything in capacity to make the school safe for kids to come back”, said the principal of a prominent school in south Kolkata.
Some parents were seen protesting outside DPS Ruby Park school, and police handled the situation later. The parents wanted to speak to the school authorities. They claimed that several students have also submitted online petitions to the school authorities asking them to continue online classes due to COVID-19. After discussing with the parent bodies, many institutions have decided to continue online classes since many parents were reluctant to send the children to schools until the vaccination drive is completed.
Schools in the state have also been sanitized at regular intervals according to the SOPs while some schools have also allowed only class 12 students to enter the premises for the practical work. Sudents, teachers, and non-teaching staff members are also required to maintain all the guidelines issued by the Centre and the state government ensuring the safety of the students and teachers attending classes.
Also, the schools have made arrangements for teachers who teach in both middle and higher classes, to take online lessons from campus for classes 6 to 8.
