Big blow to the Congress in Bengal — party MP Mausam Noor joins the Trinamool Congress
Mausam Benazir Noor, a two-time Lok Sabha Member of Parliament of the Congress from West Bengal – who represents the Malda North constituency – joined the Trinamool Congress today. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, this is a major blow to the Congress.
Mausam Noor called on Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday at the state administrative headquarters Nabanna. Now that she has joined the Trinamool Congress, it is almost certain that she will contest the Malda North Lok Sabha constituency on a Trinamool Congress ticket. This is a big blow to the Congress in Malda district, which has always been its stronghold.
Mausam Noor is the daughter of late Rubi Noor and the niece of the legendary Congress leader A.B.A. Ghani Khan Choudury, who was railway minister in Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s cabinet. Mausam Noor’s other maternal uncle, Abu Hashem Khan Chowdhury is Congress MP from Malda South Lok Sabha constituency.
Mausam Noor’s mother Rubi Noor had won the Sujapur Assembly constituency in Malda thrice. This is the seat from where Mausam Noor had contested earlier, and was elected. Later, she was elected to the Lok Sabha from Malda North constituency.
