BJP list for Bengal: Suvendu from Nandigram, Ashok Dinda from Moyna, Bharati Ghosh from Debra

Candidates of first two phases announced.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday evening announced its first list of candidates for West Bengal Assembly elections 2021. The list includes 57 candidates that go to the polls in the first and second phase of elections on March 27 and April 1.

Suvendu Adhikary has been named the candidate from Nandigram, and he will face his former boss, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in this high voltage contest that will be a do-or-die fight for both. Among other key candidates are cricketer Ashok Dinda, who will contest from the Moyna seat. Former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh — once considered close to Mamata Banerjee who has joined the BJP some years back — will contest from the Debra seat.

The first phase includes seats from Purulia, Jhargram, parts of East Midnapore, West Midnapore and Bankura. The second phase includes seats from the remaining seats of Bankura, East Midnapore, West Midnapore and parts of South 24 Parganas. The seats include Patashpur, Kanthi Uttar, Kanthi Dakshin, Khejuri, Gopiballavpur, Jhargram, Kharagpur, Garbeta, Salboni, Medinipur, Sabang, Pingla, Debra, Ghatal, Chandrakona, Keshpur, Bankura, Haldia, Narayangarh, Patharpratima, Kakdwip, Tamluk, Nandigram, Chandipur, Kharagpur Sadar and so on.

Candidates in two other seats that go to the polls in the first two phases will be announced soon, and another seat has been left for BJP’s ally. Altogether 60 seats have elections scheduled in the first two phases.
