Khagen Murmu, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Malda Uttar, was shocked when he found two stones on opening the package of his newly ordered mobile phone. He was all the more crestfallen perhaps because this was the first time that he had ordered anything online.
Although he went for a “cash on delivery” option, it didn’t strike him to check the contents of the parcel before paying the courier boy. The parcel was delivered to him on Sunday evening. Murmu opened the box on Monday morning to notice that the box bore the name of a different brand than the one he had ordered. Then he opened the box only to find two stones inside it. The phone had cost him Rs. 11,999.
Murmu said that he had lodged complaint with the local police station and said that he will also report the matter to Union Minister of consumer affairs.
When the courier boy was contacted, he provided a number to register the complaint. When the number was called, a person apologised and asked Murmu for his bank details so that the amount could be refunded. At this, he feared that this may be another fraud to cheat him by siphoning off money from his bank account and promptly disconnected the line. The Malda police is probing the case.
