BJP protests in Salt Lake, alleges police bias against party ahead of civic polls
Suvendu Adhikari leads protest.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday held a protest rally outside the Bidhannagar police commissionerate office in Salt Lake to protest alleged police action on BJP candidates who were campaigning for the upcoming civic polls.
Elections are scheduled in 108 municipalities on February 27 including Salt Lake. The party also alleged that those involved in an attack on the party office had not been arrested yet. Led by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, the BJP alleged police bias against their party workers and leaders and claimed the police were backing the ruling party.
Road blocks were held by BJP workers led by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. They shouted slogans and were stopped by police barricades. The road blocks continued for some time. Adhikari said that democracy in Bengal had become non-existent and it was like a “gas chamber”. He said that the BJP is moving court to demand Central force deployment for the coming civic polls as the state police were biased in favour of the ruling party, he alleged.
