It’s peak summer in poll season and West Bengal’s Asansol is hot and dry. Trinamool Congress candidate Moon Moon Sen and her political opponents (including the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Babul Supriyo) are engaged in poll campaigns for weeks now.

It’s difficult to find time for breaks, but sometimes poll campaigns can bring little joys too.

A few days back, Sen was campaigning in the Asansol area when a seven-month old monkey locked in the arms of Bagha Pandey, came to watch the fun. The tiny monkey, Badshah, caught Sen’s attention, even as she was then campaigning from the stage. She asked Pandey to bring the money to her.

Always fond of animals, Sen learnt that Badshah had been found in a sorry state in a village, without parents. Bagha Pandey had rescued him and named him Badshah.

Sen’s daughters – Riya and Raima – have now joined her in Asansol and are accompanying her in the poll campaigns. They are staying in a hotel for a while. Moon Moon Sen had asked Badshah to be brought to her daughters, who would love to spend some time with the little monkey.

And Badshah did a lot of monkeying around in the hotel room. Offered a chocolate, he spat it out, not quite liking the taste. Badshah loves to drink milk and that’s his only favourite. Raima and Riya cuddled the little one and fed him and clicked lots of pictures with him.
