Tata Motors FY2031 Roadmap: 15 Models, 6 New Cars and 12 Lakh Sales Target

Tata Motors has laid out an aggressive expansion plan for FY2031, aiming to introduce six entirely new cars, expand its electric vehicle portfolio and double its annual sales volume to over 12 lakh units.

The Bengal Story Bureau: Tata Motors has outlined an aggressive portfolio expansion roadmap for the financial year 2031, aiming to double its annual passenger vehicle sales to over 12 lakh units. The automaker plans to scale its portfolio to 15 models, introducing six entirely new nameplates and placing a heavy emphasis on its electric vehicle segment.

During a recent investor presentation, the company confirmed that its strategy goes beyond routine updates. The six new nameplates will target entirely new customer segments. The plan also includes over 20 product interventions such as facelifts, feature upgrades and new powertrain options across its existing lineup.

Expanding the EV Portfolio

Electric vehicles remain central to the automaker’s future. Tata Motors, already a dominant player in the Indian EV space, plans to increase its electric model count from the current six to 10. By FY2031, the company expects EVs to account for 30 per cent of its total passenger vehicle sales, translating to roughly 3.5 lakh to 4 lakh electric units annually.

Industry estimates suggest that by the end of the decade, EVs could capture 15 to 20 per cent of the overall Indian passenger vehicle market. Tata Motors projects that alternative powertrains, combining EV and CNG models, will eventually account for nearly 45 per cent of the market.

Upcoming Launches: Sierra and Avinya

The immediate launch pipeline features the highly anticipated Tata Sierra EV, which is expected to debut around June 30. The Safari EV is also likely to arrive during the upcoming festive season.

In addition, the company is developing the Avinya EV range. Built on next-generation electric vehicle architecture, the Avinya family is designed to position the brand in the premium EV segment.

Doubling Sales and Capacity

Tata Motors currently sells around 6.4 lakh passenger vehicles annually. The FY2031 target of 12 lakh units represents an ambition to secure an 18 to 20 per cent market share. To support this growth, the company will expand its production capacity from 9 lakh to 13 lakh units over the next two to three years.

This capacity boost is essential to meet the growing demand for EV and CNG models while keeping waiting periods in check. As competition intensifies from Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra and MG, this product expansion will be critical for maintaining Tata Motors’ market position.
