Byelections are being held in two seats of West Bengal on Tuesday – Ballygunge Assembly seat and Asansol Lok Sabha constituency.
In Ballygunge, the Trinamool Congress candidate is Babul Supriyo, who quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined Bengal’s ruling party recently. The Left Front candidate from Ballygunge is Saira Shah Halim. She is daughter-in-law of former Speaker of West Bengal Assembly, Hasim Abdul Halim. The BJP’s candidate from Ballygunge is Keya Ghosh. This seat fell vacant due to the death of Subrata Mukherjee, Trinamool Congress’ senior leader and minister.
In Asansol, the CPI(M) candidate is Partha Mukherjee, while Shatrughan Sinha has been fielded by the Trinamool Congress. The BJP’s candidate in Asansol is Agnimitra Paul. This seat fell vacant after Babul Supriyo joined Trinamool.
